Steadfast And Aggressive Criminal Defense Representation That You Need

Covington Drug Possession Charges

Northern Kentucky Drug Possession Defense Attorney Shannon Sexton

A drug possession conviction could have surprisingly serious consequences. A possession conviction could prevent you from working in the career of your choice. It can prevent you from applying for federal student financial aid. It can prevent you from getting a security clearance for your job. These are just some of the long-term consequences, and are in addition to potential fines and jail time (1 to 5 years).

You have got to fight to keep it off your record. If you’re looking for someone who can tear the case apart, find someone who knows how it was put together.

I am Shannon D. Sexton, a former criminal prosecutor and now criminal defense lawyer for people facing felony or misdemeanor drug charges in Kenton County, Campbell County or Boone County. When you need a strong defense, contact my Covington law office online or at 859-431-9999 for a free initial consultation.

Experience That Gets Results

In Jefferson County, the largest jurisdiction in Kentucky, I was a member of the Narcotics Unit and I prosecuted thousands of felony drug cases. In Kenton County, I was the lead prosecutor for the Northern Kentucky Drug Strike Force. In Campbell County, I continued to prosecute drug cases.

I know how these cases are investigated and how they are charged. I know the weak points of cases and what’s missing from the prosecutor’s case. As a defense lawyer, I use those weaknesses to protect my clients rights.

  • What evidence is there that you knew of the presence of drugs? Where they actually in your possession or just nearby?
  • Were there other people in the car? The more people in the car, the more likely the drugs were in someone else’s possession, or conversely, the more doubt that they were actually in yours.

Defense Against Any Drug Crime

The most common criminal drug possession cases I see involving illegal drugs are for marijuana and cocaine, as well as heroin, methamphetamine and ecstasy. But I also handle cases involving illegal possession of legal, prescription drugs like OxyContin, Xanax, Ritalin, and Hydrocodone.

I defend people (including pharmacy, hospital and clinic employees) charged with theft of controlled substances. I also defend people on charges of prescription fraud and “doctor shopping.”

There are usually several opportunities to clear your record. My goal in any felony drug possession case is to get charges dropped or to seek a diversion program. If I can’t get the prosecutor to offer diversion, I am prepared to take your case to trial.
