District and Circuit Courts

Each county in Kentucky, including the Northern Kentucky area of Boone, Campbell and Kenton counties, has two separate courts in relation to criminal cases - District Court and Circuit Court. District Court has jurisdiction over misdemeanors and traffic violations, while Circuit Court has jurisdiction over felonies. Each jurisdiction possesses its own way of doing things which makes each jurisdiction different. It is very important to hire an attorney who is intimately familiar with each jurisdiction.
